FOUNDED IN 2014, M24 CANES (FKA “MILLER BASEBALL”) IS A PHILADELPHIA-BASED TRAVEL BASEBALL ORGANIZATION FOCUSING ON PLAYER DEVELOPMENT & COLLEGE RECRUITMENT. WE CURRENTLY COMPETE IN THE 9U TO 18U AGE GROUPS. OUR PLAYERS ARE FROM VARIOUS SCHOOLS THROUGHOUT GREATER PHILADELPHIA AREA.

IN THE FALL OF 2018, WE MERGED WITH CANES BASEBALL TO FORM THE M24 CANES.

DAVID MILLER

FOUNDER

David Miller is currently the head coach at La Salle University in Philadelphia. Prior to La Salle,  David was head coach at Penn Charter (Philadelphia, PA) where he has compiled a .757 winning percentage and racked up 84 victories, highlighted by winning of the Inter-Ac League Championships in 2014 & 2017.

After a standout athletic career at Chestnut Hill Academy, David continued his baseball career at Clemson University, where he played in multiple College World Series, as the Tigers ranked #1 in the nation in 1994 & 1995. David earned All-American honors and was a National Player of the Year finalist his junior year after batting .383 with 9 home runs, 78 RBI, and 27 stolen bases. In 1995, David was selected in the 1st round of the MLB Draft by the Cleveland Indians, and has played for the Braves, Phillies, Reds, and Pirates organizations.

After his playing career, David coached at the collegiate level at Villanova, William & Mary, Rutgers, and Hawaii, as well as the prestigious Cape Cod Summer League.

JUSTIN HANLEY

HEAD OF BASEBALL OPERATIONS, 16U SHOWCASE COACH

Justin Hanley is entering his 2nd year as varsity head coach at Penn Charter (Philadelphia, PA), where he served as pitching coach from 2013-2017. His pitching staffs have finished in the top tier ERA/WHIP stats leaders in Southeastern Pennsylvania.  Since 2014, Justin has coached the Inter-Ac/Independent All-Stars in the Carpenter Cup Classic, an annual tournament showcasing the best high school baseball players in the Tri-State area. Prior to Penn Charter, Justin served as an instructor/coach at All Star Baseball Academy in Cherry Hill, NJ.

A native of Wyomissing, PA, Justin played college baseball at West Chester University, where he was a four-year starter and was named a co-captain his senior year. Justin was a starting LHP on a staff that finished #1 in the nation in ERA in 2004, and 4th in 2005. In four seasons at WCU (2002-2005), the Golden Rams set school records for victories, and played in multiple NCAA Division II Championships.

Outside of baseball, Justin works for Rittenhouse Ventures, a Philadelphia-based venture capital firm.

 

tim gunn

INSTRUCTOR, 17U/SHOWCASE TEAM COACH

Tim Gunn is currently the head baseball coach at Lower Merion High School. From 2012-2017, Tim served as the head baseball coach at Germantown Friends School in Philadelphia. Coach Gunn brings extensive collegiate level coaching to Miller Baseball. Tim's knowledge and passion for the game have made him one of the area's top hitting instructors.

After a career at St. Joseph's Prep in Philadelphia that included 3 Carpenter Cup selections and All-City honors as a senior, Tim went on to be a 3-year starter at St. Joseph's University where remains in the school record books as top-10 for hits, doubles, home runs, and RBI. 

In the Summer of 2001, Tim coached the Brooklawn (NJ) American Legion program that won the National Championship with a final record of 56-4.

Gunn has 10 years of collegiate coaching experience with stints at Arcadia University (2002-2005), St. Joseph's University (2006-2007) and Swarthmore College (2009-2011). In the summer of 2005, Tim coached the Brewster Whitecaps in the Cape Cod Baseball League. 

sHAUN ELLIS 

 INSTRUCTOR, 14/15U HEAD COACH

Shaun Ellis is the pitching coach at Penn Charter (Philadelphia, PA). A standout 2-sport athlete from Cardinal Dougherty High School, Shaun played his college baseball at Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

After continuing his baseball career throughout college, Shaun Ellis was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in 2008. After being released by the Phillies in 2009, Shaun played for numerous Independent Professional teams as a starter and relief pitcher. In 2013, Shaun reentered affiliated baseball when he signed with the Cincinnati Reds. After being moved to the number one starter role in the rotation, Shaun was selected to participate in the Double A All-Star Game in 2013. In 2014, Shaun was signed by the New Jersey Jackals and played an important role in the bullpen winning the Jackals first place in the season. With the help of Shaun, the team continued on to the Championship series where the Jackals lost in 6 games. During the 2014 season Shaun lead the league in appearances and had more strikeouts than innings pitched. Shaun spent the 2017 & 2018 seasons as the closer for the Trois-Rivieres Aigles in the CanAm League.
